Autism Spectrum Disorders
General information on autism spectrum disorders, reframing behavior as communication, recognizing the relationship between anxiety, sensory issues and challenging behavior and how to develop and visual and social bag of tricks for home and school.
Behavior is Communication
By understanding the fundamentals of Autism Spectrum Disorders and the origins of actions ("behaviors"), this workshop will provide participants with strategies and techniques to positively support persons on the spectrum in their schools, homes, and communities.
Person Centered Planning
Learn what PCP is and it's role in development of services and supports to encourage more fulfilling lives for individuals.
Project Based Learning Curriculum
PBLC is a comprehensive approach to inclusive teaching of children with autism spectrum disorders with their non-disabled peers. This type of curriculum allows children to learn the same topics as their peers, but gears it toward their own ability level.
Accommodations and Modifications
This workshop will cover many different ways to accommodate and modify both the student's environment and academics. Many examples will be demonstrated.
Visual Supports/Peer Awareness
Learning the importance of visual supports throughout the lifespan of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Practical examples and samples will be shown and discussed. Alternative, motivating activities and assignments will also be presented that can make learning more visual and easily retained. In the afternoon, participants will learn how to teach peers and personnel about autism, in order to develop more compassionate peer relationships and understanding in the school environment. Hands on activities wil lbe demonstrated and discussed to help in this process.
Paraprofessional Training
An overview of autism spectrum disorders, reframing behavior as communication, the relationship between anxiety, sensory issues and behavioral challenges, how to develop a visual and social "bag of tricks" and home/school communication tips.
